SANIBEL ISLAND ART HOP

The Hirdie Girdie Gallery is thrilled to announce our participation in the Sanibel Art Hop for its inaugural island‑wide art event on Sunday, January 25, from 2:00 to 5:00 PM. The event will be held on the following Sundays: Sunday, February 22, Sunday, March 22 and Sunday, April 26 starting at 2:00pm each day. Pick up your passport at the Sanibel Community Center and jump on board one of the golf carts available to visit all the galleries or follow the map in your own vehicle. We are one of your “art stops” and would gladly stamp your “Art Hop Passport” so you can fill it up and qualify for a free drink at Doc Fords!

FEBRUARY RECEPTION

Hirdie Girdie Gallery on Sanibel is excited and happy to welcome guest artists Barbara Broderick and Rebecca Christopher for the month of February 2026. On Thursday, February 5th; 5-8 PM the Gallery will host a ‘meet and greet’ reception where you will meet the guest artists as well as many of the member artists. Join us!

Meet our guest artists:
Barbara Broderick - a Master stained glass artist who has branched out to include resin in her work. In Barbara’s work you will see a ‘bit of Florida’ in her candles and coasters and in other items. Her work radiates happiness with bright colors and are meant to reflect the Florida lifestyle. Barbara welcomes custom orders so you can get the perfect piece.

Rebecca Christopher - an acrylic painter who finds inspiration in natures' glorious beauty. Her painting style is described as impressionist and she prefers to let the colors speak to her and drive her creativity. She happily paints the scenes around her whether it be a beach dune scene, florals or sea creatures.

The Guest Artists’ work is available for viewing at Hirdie Girdie for the month of February. We hope you will take the opportunity to enjoy them.

JANUARY RECEPTION

Our reception on Thursday, January 8th the Gallery will have a ‘meet and greet’ reception from 5-8 PM. At this time you will be able to meet and speak with the artists who make Hirdie Girdie so special.

Artist Nancy Mayhew is an award winning mosaic artist.  Her interest in mosaics is fueled by a love of  recycling old and found items of rusty metal, sea glass, sea shells, driftwood, costume jewelry, broken plates, and glass. These items spark the ideas that are the foundation of her creations. In Florida, she is known for her creation of Pelicans and other sea life birds.

Woodturners of Southwest Florida is a local woodturning club based in Fort Myers, Florida. the club was formed to bring together people who share an interest in the art of woodturning. Each member of the club has a different skill set, some prefer small objects, others focus on decorative wood bowls and a few even explore the art of resin casting, inlays and segmented bowls.

The works of guest artist Nancy Mayhew and the Woodturners of Southwest Florida will be on display for the entire month of January so make sure to take time to visit Hirdie Girdie and enjoy their work and the work of all our amazing artists. Come join us at the gallery and see the exciting world of mosaics creation and the art of woodturning.

Hirdie Girdie is an artists’ cooperative. All of our artists are from the Southwest Florida area and there is always one artist ready to welcome you to Hirdie Girdie and answer any questions you might have.

MAY RECEPTION

Our reception on Thursday, May 1 from 5-8 pm will include a “meet and greet” with our guest artist. This is our final reception for the season so be sure to come and see all our lovely artwork in the gallery! We open our doors again in October 2025. During the summer season if you are interested in a piece of artwork please email the gallery and the artist will be in touch with you.

Hirdie Girdie welcomes guest artist Michelle Sanders for the month of May.

Michelle is a colored pencil artist and has loved drawing for as long as she can remember. Over the years, she has worked in several mediums including watercolor, oil, pen and ink, and has been working with colored pencil for the last 10 years. She is inspired by subjects that have shadows and contrast, striving for photo-realism. She has shown in galleries and taught workshops. She was named one of the best 50 artists of the year by Artist and Illustrators magazine and her piece was displayed at Mall Galleries in London. Her work has also been published in calendars and books.

WRAP UP OF OPEN HOUSE

Hirdie Girdie held their Open House on Saturday, April 12, 2025 and would like to thank all of you who celebrated the beautiful Sanibel Island day with us. Everyone had a great time participating in the do-it-yourself art projects, the scavenger hunt and munching on appetizers. The Scavenger hunt gave everyone who participated a new and different way of looking at the art in the gallery-those who completed the hunt were rewarded with a $5 gift certificate to use at the gallery. There are a few sheets left so come on in and do the scavenger hunt and get a certificate. We do have a few more give aways…so come on in and try your luck!

OPEN HOUSE-FREE FUN, PRIZES & REFRESHMENTS!

Hirdie Girdie Art Gallery is hosting an Open House-Saturday April 12, 2025, 1:00-4:00pm. Gallery artists will offer art-making opportunities and others will be giving demonstrations. A scavenger hunt will be held in the gallery with prizes and live entertainment by our own member/musician Laura Black and husband Russ.

Great fun for all and all this is free to the public! Come join the fun and take some artwork home with you!

Be sure to take a look at all the items on the OPEN HOUSE SPECIALS table - items made by our artists but are not in the gallery! And before you leave, pick up one of the discount cards from various Sanibel restaurants and grab something to eat or drink.

APRIL RECEPTION & GALLERY TALK

The Hirdie Girdie Gallery has scheduled a reception on Thursday, April 3 from 5-8 pm. A “gallery talk” will take place in addition to our “meet and greet” event. At 6:00pm member artist Renee Farr will explain her process for creating her beautiful glass bowls and share inside information about glass-you will want to be there!

For the month of April Hirdie Girdie welcomes guest artists Kori Ann Evans & Stacey Ann Roush, you can view their art for the entire month of April.
